Dr. Balaji Ramanathan
Guided by Experience. Inspired by Tradition.
Dr. Balaji Ramanathan has been practising astrology for the past 27 years, with formal academic training behind every reading. He holds a Master of Arts in Jyothisham from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, and a Doctorate in Vedanga Jyotishya — his doctoral thesis, Progeny Analysis Based on the K.P. System, remains the foundation of his work on childbirth and family-related questions.
He studied under seven teachers across the classical, KP and Naadi traditions, and has been honoured with titles by the KP Astrologers' Forum, the K.P. Stellar Astrological Research Institute and the All India Navyug Astrologers Federation. Every consultation stays practical: what the chart shows, what it means for the decision in front of you, and what you can do about it.
Why KP Astrology?
Dr. Balaji practises Vedic, Naadi and KP Stellar astrology, and reaches for KP first because in his experience it predicts events in a person's life with far greater accuracy than any other system. He has also written on astrology for several astrological journals. Read how KP works →
Credentials & Honours
Also a delegate at the All India Astrological Conference (ICAS, 2007) and trained in Advanced Predictive Techniques in Traditional Astrology & Naadi Jyothisha at Jyothirvastu Vignana Samstha, Hyderabad.
Learned From
Astrology is not learned from books alone. Over 27 years, Dr. Balaji studied under teachers across the classical, KP and Naadi traditions — each of whom shaped a different part of how he reads a chart today.

Understanding KP Astrology
Krishnamurti Paddhati takes its name from the man who invented it. Where the stellar system stopped at the star, Prof. Krishnamurti spent decades dividing each of the 27 stars further — in the unequal proportion of the Vimsottari Dasa — and named that smaller division the Sub.
That single discovery, together with the Ruling Planet method, is what the whole system rests on. Astrologers who have taken it up widely regard it as the most powerful and effective tool available for accurate prediction.
The stellar system of prediction was first developed by two friends — Meena I (the late R. Gopalakrishna Row) and Meena II (the late N. V. Raghava Chary). Prof. Krishnamurti was close to both.
Rather than stop where they had, he carried the research forward for decades and arrived at the sub-division of the star. Every technique in KP is built on the correct evaluation and application of these Sub Lords.
KP is not a different body of astrological knowledge. It uses the same nine planets with the same significations, the same 27 constellations, and the same zodiac of twelve signs from Aries to Pisces. Aries still carries its fiery element and its portion of the head; the sixth house still governs service, illness, open enemies and hard work. Nothing in that layer changes.
The difference lies in the method of arriving at a prediction. Traditional astrology draws on a wide range of charts and tables beyond the birth or horary chart. KP uses only a few tools, and they stay constant in every situation — which is what allows a prediction to be pinned down to the minute.
KP follows one system of house division only — Placidus, also called the Semi-Arc system. The chart is cast to the precise latitude and longitude of the person, or of the place where the astrologer is sitting if it is a horary reading.
Under Placidus the twelve houses are not all the same length. Some run longer than 30°, some shorter. Two house cusps can fall inside a single sign, and a sign can hold no cusp at all. That unevenness is deliberate — it is what ties the chart to the actual place and moment.
KP reads the result of a house primarily through its cuspal sub lord and that sub lord's stellar significations. A planet's effect is judged by the star it occupies and the sub-division within that star.
Each cuspal sub position marks out a very specific area of the zodiac, and those areas fall under the lordship of the nine planets. So a concrete prediction comes from reading a house's signification, through its cuspal sub lord, across the significations of all nine.
Prof. Krishnamurti added a tool found nowhere else: the Ruling Planets. They act as guidance when the astrologer needs clarification or confirmation on a point that is holding up a final judgement.
They are the master key to the technique, and mastering the system means becoming adept with them. Their use in applied prediction is close to limitless — and the credit for both the concept and its utility belongs entirely to Prof. Krishnamurti.
Alongside the Ruling Planets, Prof. Krishnamurti gave the system a set of sub numbers running from 1 to 249. These are the sub-divisions of each of the zodiac's 27 stars, taken in the proportion of the Vimsottari Dasa. Traditional astrology has no equivalent division.
They have proved highly effective for horary or Prashna charts — where a specific question needs answering, or where the birth time is not known. If you don't have your exact time of birth, this is the route Dr. Balaji will usually take.
